Camping Mashed Potatoes and Nut Roast

What are we eating for Dinner? This weekend was a perfect time to go camping with friends. On our menu for dinner will be mashed potatoes, gravy, nut roast, and vegetable platter. I forgot to bring gravy ingredients, so I am going to have to make up a recipe with the ingredients that I brought. I started with the instant mashed potatoes. While I waited for the water to boiling I pulled together a few items to make the gravy. First I melted butter in a sauce pan, then I added a chicken turmeric seasoning, some instant mashed potatoes and milk. Surprisingly it everyone liked it. Then came the nut roast, with walnuts, cottage cheese, and special K cereal. That was mixed together and baked.

Onions Sauteed or in a Broth

This is the time of year when onions are harvested. And onions are a key ingredient in many delicious recipes. It is the perfect time to cook them up so you can use them throughout the winter months. Here’s how to cook onions so that they bring out the best flavor in your dishes. Cooking onions can be an easy thing do and time saving for future meals.

Start by peeling the outer skin of the onions. Then slicing the onion in rings or chopping it into smaller pieces. Next you can sauté them in a bit of oil or butter until they are soft and translucent. Then you can let the onions cool down. I like to put them in containers or zip lock plastic bags so that the onions can be put into the freezer for future use.

Or you can cook the onions in a pot of boiling water. To start, you peel and chop the onions, add them to water or stock and bring the mixture to a boil. Add salt and herb seasoning to taste. Finally, let the broth simmer for at least 30 minutes before using it in your recipe. This cooking method will give your broth a rich, robust flavor that is perfect for soups, stews, and other hearty dishes. If you are making it for future meals now is the time to remove it from the heat and strain the broth into a container. Let the onions and broth cool down.  They are then ready to be stored in the freezer. Now we have onion broth and cooked onions we can use for future meals.

There’s nothing quite like the taste of a homemade broth or sautéed onions. Onions can be cooked alone or with other vegetables, meats, or rice. Onions can also be used as a topping on pizza or in salads. In addition, onions are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. Onions are wonderful because, they are such a versatile ingredient that can be used in many different dishes, or simply enjoyed on their own. Hope you give it a try!

And because it cooks relatively quickly, it is possible to have a delicious, home-cooked meal on the table even on busy weeknights. Landscapes with many flowering plants are wonderful in attracting bees. Bees do pollinate about 80% of all flowering plants and this is very beneficial for roses to continue blooming throughout the Fall season. A single bee colony can potentially pollinate millions of flowers everyday. Making bees very helpful in providing for the rose garden environment.

Another great thing about roses is that they attract ladybugs. Ladybugs are a gardener’s best friend because they eat aphids, which are destructive pests that can ruin your plants. If you are interested on information about making tea with rose petals added, be sure to check out my other blog post, “How to Make the Perfect Cup of Tea.” This post covers everything from choosing the right tea leaves – to steeping times. So if you want to learn even more about making tea, be sure to give it a read!

Tea and Rose Petals

Making tea is wonderful in all seasons because, you can make it hot or cold. There are lots of herbs in your garden that you can make tea from. And there are surprisingly even some flowers in your yard that you can make a cup of delicious tea. The most common are chamomile, lavender, and mint all of which are great for tea. Here are some tips to make the perfect cup of tea.

First, you will need to gather your supplies. You will need fresh water, a teapot or pot, a strainer, loose tea leaves or bags, milk (optional), honey (optional), and a cup.

Next, you will need to heat your water to the proper temperature. For green tea, the water should be around 160 degrees Fahrenheit. For black tea, the water should be around 212 degrees Fahrenheit. And for herbal teas, the water should be boiling.

Then, you will need to add the appropriate amount of tea leaves or bags to your pot. For green tea, you will need about one teaspoon of leaves per cup. For black tea, you will need about two teaspoons of leaves per cup. And for herbal teas, you will need about one tablespoon of leaves per cup.

After that, you will need to pour the hot water over the tea leaves and let them steep for the appropriate amount of time. For green tea, you will need to steep for about two minutes. For black tea, you will need to steep for about three minutes. And for herbal teas, you will need to steep for about five minutes.

Finally, you will need to strain the tea and then add your desired toppings. Some popular toppings for tea include milk, almond milk, oatmilk, honey, and lemon.

And that’s all there is to making the perfect cup of homemade tea! Just remember to use fresh ingredients and to steep for the appropriate amount of time, and you’ll be sure to enjoy a delicious cup of tea.

What are you eating for Dinner?

What is for Dinner? That is a question I am sure we have all asked ourselves at one point or another. It is not always easy to make healthy options for Dinner.

I made salmon for dinner. I cooked it on the stove top in my iron skillet. I seasoned it with some rosemary, marjoram, and Himalayan pink salt. In the skillet, I put a tiny bit of olive oil to cook the salmon. I kept a lid on the salmon while it cooked, so it would not splatter all over the stove top. And I was happy that the whole kitchen did not smell like cooking fish. For dinner I also cut up a few potatoes and cooked them in another iron skillet. For the potatoes, I only added olive oil and sea salt. Hopefully in another month I will be able to use the herbs from my garden.

Salmon

What are we eating for Dinner? Today, I made tater tot casserole in an iron
skillet. First I put milk in the skillet, then the
tater tots. I seasoned with parsley, turmeric,
and salt. After that I put in a mixture of
condensed cauliflower soup and sour cream. Then it cooked for 20 minutes.

What is for Breakfast? Turkey bacon for breakfast. Cooked in the iron skillet. It has such a yummy taste when it is cooked in a iron skillet.

What are we eating for Dinner? Everyone wanted chicken strips for dinner. I cooked them with some herbs and a little salt, in my iron skillet.

What are we eating for Dinner? Another healthy and delicious choice is in your graden. Fresh zucchini, picked at the peak of ripeness, is a great way to add nutrition and flavor to the meal. Starting with some marinara sauce and mixing in herb seasonings with a little olive oil. Bring the sauce to a boil and then add sliced zucchini from the garden. Remove the sauce pan from the stove top and let it set for ten minutes. Now it is time to add the hot cooked noodles to the marinara sauce mixture. It is ready to serve for dinner.

What is for Dinner? Garden zucchini is on the menu again. My zucchini plant is slowly producing them. One of my plants has become infested with stink bugs. I have been treating them with coffee grounds and dish soap with water in a spray bottle. Now that my plants have started producing zucchini again, it is time to cook it for dinner. Another delicious marinara, zucchini, and noodle dish.

Marinara sauce with oregano, marjoram, basil, and turmeric seasoning. Then added diced up zucchini and cooked for 10 minutes. After it was bubbling I added the noodles.

What could be for Dinner? This evening, I boiled noodles until tender. Then I made a creamy sauce with plain yogurt, butter, herb seasoning and parmesan cheese. With just a few simple ingredients, you can have a gourmet meal on the table in no time. The addition of creamy sauce adds depth of flavor that elevates any dish. I Served it with sliced garden cucumber and avocado.

Seeds have started growing

Finally my seeds have started. But half of my containers did not have any plants 🌱 sprout.

So I have replanted more seeds. I was hoping that by now I would have big enough plants to start putting them in the ground. But I only have a few plants. If you struggle with growing Herbs from seeds, I am finding out it takes lots of patience and replanting.

I have replanted seeds in the cups with the pebbles in them. I also sprinkled coffee grounds on the cups to help keep the bugs out.

Progress is slowly happening with my plants. They have started to grow. My seeds that I replanted have not started to grow yet. I will check them tomorrow, hopefully I will see sprouts.

A few of the new seeds I replanted have started to sprout. It is so hot right now that I have to water them every day.

Check out the plants I planted in the ground. They have started to get more leaves.

Different types of squash

The vegetables I planted have grown so much. Starting them from seeds takes more time and patience but it is worth it when they start growing.

If you are on a budget, starting your plants from seeds is ideal. Each seed packet is a reasonable price. If you have too many of one type of plant growing well for you, you can sell your plants to friends or coworkers.

The herbs are getting bigger, so this week I should be able to plant some of them. I put more coffee grounds around them.

It is time to plant the plants in the ground. They have gotten big enough. What a fun day.

Today was a good day. I picked 2 zucchini and one cucumber from my garden. My cucumber plant continues to grow. Tomato’s are starting to turn red.

First, I put the plants in the area I wanted to plant them. I also had a drip system installed so they get watered everyday. Now it is time to put them into the ground. This is so exciting! My herb garden is starting.

Herb gardens can take time to flourish. When I moved into this house two years ago, there were no herbs growing in the yard. Now I finally have a few started.

Rose petals

My roses are blooming, what can I make with them?

I found my flower grinding dish, so now I am going to pick my roses and grind the petals. This will help me make lotion or face cream.

Now I will see what I can make.

Here is a short video, about the process. Sorry the video is not working, I must have loaded it incorrectly. Soon to come will be the video. (after I figure out how to load it)

I have been grinding the rose petals in my ceramic herb grinder making liquid from the petals. Now I am going to put the small amount of liquid on the my figures. After doing so it seems that my skin is softer. Lately the skin on my hands has been very dry. The rose petal liquid seem to be good for my skin.

The video about the roses is now on my Facebook.

The end of Summer roses in my yard are in need of attention. Some of them have burnt roses petals that need to be picked, so new flowers will grow.

I have gone to each plant and taken the roses that are damaged off.

My roses are already looking better, after I trimmed the burnt roses.
